Adam Virgo is poised for an extended run as an emergency centre forward after taking over from Leon Knight as Albion's goalscoring hero.
The big defender turned striker scored a spectacular 85th-minute equaliser to earn the Seagulls a 1-1 draw at Watford on Saturday.
Virgo's second goal in as many games following his match-winner at Leicester, and third of the season, came after manager Mark McGhee kept him on and took Knight off instead.
McGhee said: "Adam is suited to playing up there some of the time, so we will see how it goes.
"He's playing well there at the moment. He scored a spectacular goal and we are thrilled for him and ourselves. It was an important equaliser and a fantastic finish. I've never scored a goal like it in my life!"
Virgo latched onto a pass from Darren Currie to dip a shot over Watford keeper Richard Lee and stretch the Seagulls' unbeaten run in the Coca-Cola Championship to three games.
He was surprised to still be on the pitch after McGhee had earlier brought on the fit-again Chris McPhee for Knight.
Virgo admitted: "When the board went up I thought it was me. That was my natutal reaction, because I am not a natural centre forward.
"Leon deserves a goal and he has got a goal in him every game, but it gives me even more confidence knowing the manager has got belief in me and I repaid him with a goal.
"In time I can hopefully slowly move my way back into the defence, but if you have scored three goals and are the top goalscorer I don't know if he (McGhee) will be willing to put me back. People might then think what is going on?
"As long as the manager is happy with my performances and the team are happy for me to be up there I will stay up there and do my best, but I don't think I'll be betting on myself to finish top scorer.
"I do like to play up front. It's quite nice getting a bit of credit for scoring the goals, but my natural position is at the back. I'll take it game by game."
