The gulf between the fastest and slowest-growing UK regions has reached its widest for three years.
The Purchasing Managers Index for Royal Bank of Scotland highlighted the differences between service industry-driven areas and those that are heavily industrialised.
The South-East had the strongest economic growth and West Midlands the weakest.
