I have worked at The Grand Ocean Hotel in Saltdean for the past four years and have been very happy there. I am sad it will soon be closing and I will have to leave.
It is a shame it cannot be kept as a hotel after all these years. There are, unfortunately, people who are too ready to put the hotel down despite the fact that it brings money into the area and provides local employment.
It may be a bit run down and it certainly needs money spent on it but there is a good atmosphere and for many local people and hotel guests alike, it has a special place in their hearts and will be sorely missed.
The proposed plans look good on paper. I hope the building work will be handled sensitively and be in keeping with this fine historical landmark.
