The news that the character of the centre of Brighton and Hove is to be degraded by yet another supermarket leaves me angry and dispirited (The Argus, September 9).
How can important decisions like this be taken before the nature of the development is known?
Or was Brighton and Hove City Council too ashamed to tell us?
If this is the best the planners can manage, why don't they go all the way and demolish themselves, replacing both sets of council offices in Brighton and Hove with another couple of supermarkets?
A shuttle bus (staffed by former members of the planning committee) could ferry shoppers between the sites, calling at the Clock Tower Safeway, Western Road Waitrose and Holland Road Tesco on the way, with optional extensions to the station site Sainsbury's and New Church Road Tesco for those who haven't had enough.
The sign welcoming visitors to Brighton on the A23 could be replaced with a large photograph of a check-out and on special occasions a hologram of a shopping trolley could be projected into the night sky over the centre of city.
