In response to Colin Bennett (Letters, September 7), I would like to draw his attention to the following.
No decision has been reached regarding any of the Brighton and Hove churches on the list for possible closure. All Saints Church is a Grade 1 listed building and as such cannot be altered in any way externally or internally.
In any case, the structure of the building would make it impossible to build a swimming pool within.
Where would Mr Bennett provide parking for all the people who would use the swimming pool?
It is difficult enough for the congregation and others who use the church and hall for events to find somewhere to park, especially in view of the increased fees.
All Saints has one of the largest regular congregations in Brighton and Hove at the Sunday morning Sung Eucharist and a large choir the equal of any church in the south.
Mr Bennett does not have a monopoly of contact with God and I can assure him that All Saints people feel the mission of the church is to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to everyone and to be a beacon in the middle of Hove.
If Mr Bennett loves All Saints so much, why does he not attend the church and join with all those who are working to save it from closure?
