Two players were sent off and goalkeeper Ross Standen twice saved a re-taken penalty as Ringmer fought out a 1-1 draw with Erith Town.
Ringmer manager John Crumplin was left shaking his head after Standen, who takes penalties for Ringmer, saved from his opposite number after the referee ordered a re-take for encroachment following the Kent side's first failure from the spot.
Crumplin said: "The referee did not have a very good game. He sent two off, booked about six and it was not even a dirty game. It was just an FA Cup battle."
The replay is tonight in Kent although Crumplin, who got married yesterday, added: "I didn't really want us to have to go back there. It is okay for me as I am getting married in Kent and can go straight there but it is a pain for the other lads."
Glen Davies levelled for Ringmer after Erith had gone ahead but was later sent off for a second bookable offence.
Erith had a player sent off in a separate incident.
East Preston broke new ground in the FA Cup when Lee Farrell's goal gave them a 1-0 victory over Merstham.
EP go into the hat today having reached this stage for the first time.
Manager Vic Short said: "This is my second ever FA Cup win and it is also the furthest this club has ever gone in the competition."
County League Mile Oak lost 2-0 at Hastings United, but their hard-working performance was praised by United boss Steve Lovell.
He said: "Mile Oak worked really hard and I think they will do well at their level, but if we'd had our shooting boots on it could have been double figures."
Carl Rook put United in front from Russell Eldridge's cross and Jon Wallis strode through to make it 2-0 in the second half.
Lovell added: "It was a potential banana skin but we got through comfortably and I'm hoping for a good draw today in the next round."
Hailsham crashed 4-0 to Whitstable Town. Worthing took the lead at Thames Mead through Phil Ruggles on 20 minutes but went out 2-1.
