Albion manager Mark McGhee admitted today: "I had a stinker."
The Seagulls boss blamed himself for a second home defeat in succession.
McGhee believes he should have made changes earlier in the second half of Saturday's last-gasp 3-2 reverse at home to Queens Park Rangers.
Albion lost their way after recovering from an early goal down to lead 2-1 at half time.
Paul Furlong levelled with 15 minutes left and McGhee then made a flurry of late substitutions but Matthew Rose snatched the points for the visitors in stoppage time.
McGhee said: "At half time I couldn't really see us being in trouble but the second half was very poor.
"The first thing I always do is look at my own performance and I had a stinker. At 2-1 we were struggling and I couldn't see the answer. The players needed help and we didn't give them it.
"I didn't do my job and I feel very disappointed. We had four people on the bench who might have been able to stem the tide, because we had lost our way a little bit in the second half. They were coming on to us and I took too long to react to it. By the time I reacted it was to try to win the game and we lost the game."
Leon Knight was among the players McGhee brought on in the dying stages. Last season's top scorer was dropped to the bench after his goalless start in the Coca-Cola Championship.
McGhee said: "It wasn't a big decision because Leon has not been playing well. He is the same as any other player, he has to be in form to be in the team. Losing the game had absolutely nothing to do with Leon. In fact, in the first half it looked a great decision because Chris McPhee and Adam Virgo gave them all sorts of problems.
"Losing the game was about other things and I feel very responsible for the second half and ultimate result."
Adam Hinshelwood's equaliser was his first senior goal for Albion but that was no consolation to the versatile youngster.
"It doesn't mean a great deal after the result," he said. "I would rather not have scored and for us to have got the three points.
"The players have got to take a great deal of the responsibility. We just did not seem to be at it in the second half. I don't know why that was."
