Worthing are celebrating one of the greatest results in their history. Now they have got to do it all again next Saturday.
Skipper Jody Levett and his men defended superbly for a 10-9 win at London Scottish in the first round proper of the Powergen Cup.
The teams meet again at the Richmond Athletic Ground in the London One next Saturday. Victory also secured another testing trip for Worthing in the cup, who must now visit National Three powerhouses Redruth, but confidence at Roundstone Lane is sky-high.
Levett said: "The team are over the moon with this result.
"The league is more important to us than the cup and next week will be tough again. Their driving maul was very effective and we will have to work on that but we also saw areas we can exploit."
Worthing have yet to concede a try in four outings this season. They came from 6-0 down to go ahead right on half-time as Jamie Stewart-MacDonald forced his way over after Worthing had won turnover ball. Duncan Taylor converted and later extended the lead with a penalty.
Bognor came from eight points down to beat higher-division Sidcup 28-8 in the Intermediate Cup with tries from Billy Toon, Karl Flynn, Gareth Williams, Paul Mitchell and Mark Gordon.
Wing Mark Webster scored twice in two minutes as Chichester won 21-15 at Brighton but the real talking point was prop Frank Corby running in from 20 yards to cap a stunning counter attack.
