Albion manager Mark McGhee revealed today the slate is clean for target man Mark McCammon, although a new striker is top of his summer shopping list.

McCammon did not feature in the final three matches of the Seagulls' successful fight for Championship survival after a half-time row with McGhee at Burnley last month.

A back problem compounded his bust-up with the boss but McGhee insists there will be no recriminations when the players report back for pre-season training on July 1.

"As far as I am concerned the slate is clean for Mark McCammon," McGhee vowed. "He comes back pre-season and knuckles down, end of story."

McGhee believes McCammon can form a more effective partnership next season with Leon Knight.

He has youngsters Jake Robinson and Chris McPhee as back-up but wants another forward to boost Albion's meagre goal tally. One front man may have to make way, with Maheta Molango the obvious candidate.

McGhee's four outfield transfer targets, two of which could be long-term loans, also include a centre half to cover for the injured Adam Hinshelwood, a left-sided midfielder and a creative central midfielder.

McGhee has not ruled out Joe Dolan as a candidate for the vacancy in the centre of defence, if he can prove his fitness through pre-season.

The injury-plagued former Crawley stopper made three starts immediately after joining Albion on loan from Millwall just before the March transfer deadline but then lost his place for the last four matches.

McGhee said: "We've got a left-sider in Guy Butters, a right-sider in Adam Virgo and Adam El-Abd as cover so, with Hinsh not back until Christmas, we will have to sign another centre half.

"That would also give us the opportunity to play Virgs up front again, which might be something we have to consider in the early part of the season depending on who we have got available up front.

"Big Joe would be an option. I've absolutely no doubts he is a player who easily has the ability to play at this level but I need to be convinced he can get through a pre-season, because I think he badly needs that."
