Travelling past the island that is St Peter’s Church, most people miss the small parade, that is York Place. Many people don't notice it as they stare at the confusing traffic lights into London Road.
The parade is nestled between Trafalgar Street and Cheapside, home to a small selection of shops such as a chemist, a few take-aways, a bike shop and a charity shop. There is also a hidden back entrance to Brighton College (ex Fawcett School) The new flats above the parade have (for the most part) been well restored and match the area.
There is also a choice of convenience stores that will soon be joined a Mulberry store. I assume that this addition will be taking its chances with the local student population. However residents are concerned over some of the hidden things that will arise from its opening.
Apart from the fact this store is opening next to the popular Aldi supermarkets and another smaller general store, there is the concern of anti social behaviour.
This comes not only from the regular sight of street drinkers and the fact that one store on that stretch already has its alcohol licence removed, but the basic need of deliveries.
Outside the store to the left as you look at it is a restricted hours loading bay, and to the right is a total ban on parking and loading. Residents in the area have been concerned over the planned Off licence opening following the announcement in December 2009 Will this possible parking problem at such a busy road be enough to push them over the edge?
