Well, the important results for Brighton Pavilion are in. I am not sure who the returning officer is going to be, Terry Garoghan, Simon ‘I am a Brightonian I am’ Fanshawe, or Tony Bloom? But just in case none of them turn up, I’ll do it.
The results of the quiz from the bloke who is supposed to do the Albion blog, are set as follows: In Miss World order (highly appropriate when you consider the candidates) did not respond;
Nigel Carter UKIP 0/20
Berni Millam 0/20 (Berni couldn’t find the time to compete)
Nancy Platts 9/20 - a decent effort
Caroline Lucas...sorry Dr Caroline Lucas MEP 14/20
and the winner with 18 out 20; the duly announced Pavilion Ward pre-Easter quiz champion, the almost Thatcheresque Charlotte Vere.
Thanks to all for being good sports.
If you have nothing better to do and subscribe to the appropriate Twitter and Facebook pages, you might have noticed a fair amount of mudslinging going on between the potential Brighton MPs, which is brilliant as it show commitment, enthusiasm and a desire to serve.
The yoghurt knitters and nouveau Brightonians are stamping their feet all over Hanover about how Brighton is going to have the UK’s first Green MP.
There is a lot of support around my locale for Ms Vere. A few posters are being put up in windows of Preston Park, some replacing ones of Ted Heath.
Lewes Road up to Woodingdean are tending to lean towards the approachable and very eager Nancy Platts. A lot of people in Patcham favour Peter Andre! Apparently you could do a lot worse, you know! Berni Millam - Lib Dem and Nigel Carter - UKIP, jolly good luck.
Ladbrokes seem to agree with the muesli mountaineers (never make the mistake I did and ask for their favourite brand of Alpen) and have Dr Lucas odds on at 5/6. Ms Vere is 2/1, Nancy Platts 3/1, Berni Milam 100/1 and Nigel Carter 200/1. The main protagonists may be relieved to hear the Real Brightonians Party are unlikely to enter a candidate this time due to personal and financial reasons, namely, the leader going down to Cornwall for 10 days in April. His wife is not prepared to open her purse and give him the £500 deposit. But if anyone wants some fudge, let me know.
What about the Albion then? Ex England international Lee Hendrie signing on loan until the end of the season and this Uruguayan lad! That is progress and shows the influence Messer’s Poyet and Bloom have, not to mention back to back wins, stunning goals and Falmer progressing nicely.
I am looking forward to next season with great anticipation. I hope Gus is too.
I am meeting an out of town Albion fan for lunch on Saturday, prior to the game. Yes, that’s you Warren. It might be interesting to gauge his Albion experiences. Just the one bottle of red I think!
