A Two Time Olympic GB coach is breathing new life into Whitehawk boxing club in a bid to attract potential talent.
Dave Pocknell who has coached the likes of Gold medallist middleweight James DeGale and Super heavyweight David Price, has been volunteering at the amateur boxing club since September 2009 and plans to stick around indefinitely.
Gary Emin, former boxer and founder of the club said: “With Dave coaching here now we really feel we have a lot to offer, with his help we can get some wins under our belts and really go places.”
Dave who has lived in Brighton for more than 20 years and trained around the world said: “Boxing has such a great impact on young lads, it makes them less likely to fight outside of the ring, and it teaches discipline and respect”
The amateur club which started with very little now has 25 young hopefuls and is hoping for big things. There will be a dinner event to showcase the club on April 16th, everyone welcome. For further information call Gary Emin on 07961 579744 “Dave is inspiring the youngsters and showing them how professional boxers train, it is having a really positive effect.”
