Over the weekend there was news that magazines such as NME are losing money. The internet has changed the way we listen and buy music but also the way we read news. Like many bands having to adapt giving their music away for free instead getting money from promotions, there has been big shift in how magazines such as NME can stay a float.
One of the things the NME has done is the awards tour. Every year NME has a pick of hot/up and coming bands for the tour. I want last year and it was fantastic. I saw Friendly fires, Glasvegas and White Lies but the star of the show had to be Florence and the Machine. It was a few months before she broke through and became well known but she was definitely a good pick.
It was a great gig last year and so even before the names were announced we decided that we would be going this year. So at the gig tonight, I’ll see the Maccabees, Bombay Bicycle Clue, The Big ink and The Drums – not bad for £15!
