Brighton’s iconic West Pier is set to be restored to its former glory – but for one night only.
Technical wizards say they will recreate the pier in ghost form by using green lasers on top of its skeletal remains as part of a promotion for Tiger Beer.
French lighting studio Creatmosphere will use computer-controlled lasers for the project, which comes as The Grand Old Lady had its concert hall remains removed from the beach this week.
Two videos shot by a passer by of a test run which took place last month have been placed on YouTube. Julia Claxton, who shot the first one, joked the "West Pier seemed to be communicating an extra-terrestial message". A Pier Appears takes place on Wednesday between 6pm and 10pm and is the first of a number of events commissioned by the beer company to mark Chinese New Year.
Brighton’s event represents water, an element featured in the Chinese zodiac.
