New sites are being investigated for a £6million ferris wheel after plans to install it on Brighton seafront collapsed.
Paramount Attractions withdrew their application for the 60m tall "Brighton O" hours before it was expected to be rejected by Brighton and Hove City Council's planning committee today.
The company said it had been unable to resolve concerns raised by neighbours about its planned site by the Old Paddling Pool, opposite the Hilton Metropole hotel in King's Road, Brighton.
A spokeswoman said Paramount was now looking into alternative sites on the city's seafront and still hoped to have the attraction installed this year.
She said: "Our proposal has met with overwhelming support from businesses within the city, who recognise the tremendous economic boost that our attraction will bring.
"It has also been welcomed by local residents and the conservation advisory group, which includes English Heritage, voted in favour of it. So, when the new site is agreed, we will be able to move forward very quickly.”
The council's planning officers had recommended the plans should be turned down by the committee today because its site cut into the space allocated for the 150m i360 viewing tower, already approved for construction at the land end of the derelict West Pier.
