Parents have asked for safety improvements at a road junction crossed by thousands of children each day.
A petition has been handed to Brighton and Hove City Council urging action at the crossroads between Old Shoreham Road, The Upper Drive and The Drive, in Hove.
Cardinal Newman Catholic School, Cottesmore St Mary's Catholic Primary, Brighton and Hove High's junior school and BHASVIC sixth form college are all close by.
Paula Slinn, who led a deputation to the council, said: "My neighbour and her daughter were nearly killed at this crossing before Christmas and my window cleaner was nearly run over by a speeding car last week.
"It is alarming that school children have to cross a busy road that is effectively being used as a dual carriageway."
The council said it would consider the situation.
