Police have identified a woman whose decomposing body was found inside a house.

Lynne Warman, 37, of Shelby Road, Durrington, was found by police officers called to her home early yesterday morning. She is thought to have been dead for several months.

A man in his 50s, who is believed to have also lived at the address, was arrested on suspicion of murder after police found Ms Warman's body at about 1.30am.

Ms Warman's body was so badly decomposed that police could not immediately identify her or how she died.

A post mortem was conducted last night, but police said they still did not know the exact cause of her death.

Further toxicology tests will now be carried out.

The man who was arrested at the scene has been released without charge and bailed until February 10.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Johns, of Sussex Police s major crime branch, said: "We do not know exactly how long she had been there. It is hard to tell definitely a lot more than days. I would say weeks or probably months, but not years."

Neighbours in Shelby Road said they saw police arrive in the cul-de-sac and the man who lived at the house taken away in handcuffs in the early hours of yesterday morning.

They said no one knew the man or his younger partner very well.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: "I didn't see much of him. I saw him yesterday in the street and he kind of growled at me.

"I hadn't seen her for months."

Fellow neighbour Christine Tilley said: "The couple moved here about a year and a half ago, just the man and woman.

"They were always arguing. We looked out the window at about 2am and saw the man being arrested.

"We didn't know them well. I don't think anyone around here did."

Mary Williams said: "The first I knew was when I saw all the police cars in the morning. I saw all the police coming and going, covering their mouths because of the smell."
