Up to 100 jobs could be created if plans to expand a secure mental health unit get the go-ahead.
Health bosses want to extend two units at Hellingly, near Hailsham, to make room for 60 extra beds.
The Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Hellingly, said the move would help meet a growing demand for the service in Sussex.
About 100 people currently work at the site and this could double if the expansion goes through.
Jobs would include posts at all levels including clinical, nursing, social care, therapists and support staff, including cleaners.
A public consultation on the proposals has been launched to get the views of residents living close to the site as well as relatives, carers and anyone else involved in the plans.
The consultation will run until February 15 and the trust is hoping to send a planning application to Wealden District Council shortly.
