The death of a 51-year-old Hastings man is no longer being treated by Sussex Police as suspicious.
The man's body was found on the steps alongside the Oddfellows Arms, Old London Road, Hastings, on Saturday, December 26 at 7.30pm.
Two local men aged 19 and 28 were arrested in connection with the death.
A post-mortem was held and the men questioned by detectives from the force's Major Crime Branch.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman has now confirmed the death is no longer being treated as suspicious and that the investigation has ended.
She said: “Whilst the conclusions of the post-mortem have failed to establish an exact cause of death, it is apparent following this examination and the interviews of the two men held in custody, a criminal assault did not take place.
“Sussex Police extend their thoughts and sympathies to the family of the man who died at this difficult time. The family will continue to be supported by a trained Family Liaison Officer.”
The 51-year-old man has yet to be formally identified.
