Crawley were on course for three derby points after taking a deserved half-time lead against Eastbourne Borough at the Broadfield today.
They went ahead after seven minutes when Lewis Killeen's pass found Charlie Ademeno who beat Borough's offside trap before firing his shot inside the near post.
Knowles tipped Ademeno's overhead kick onto the bar before the visitors levelled in the 19th minute when Liam Enver-Marun beat the offside trap to latch onto Simon Johnson's pass and beat Simon Rayner from an acute angle.
But the home side were back in front within two minutes when Glenn Wilson met Mikey Malcolm's corner with a free header to score for the second successive game.
Reds should have stretched their lead before the break. Barry Cogan's shot was cleared off the line by Gary Elphick and both Ben Smith and Lewis Killeen hit the woodwork before Smith side-footed wide from eight yards after being put clear by Ademeno.
