Firefighters have attended several road accidents over the Christmas Day and Boxing Day period.

A woman was hit by a car at the junction of Church Road and Copthorne Bank, Copthorne, at 8.15pm on Christmas Day. She was treated by the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

At 10.09am today, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to a crash on the A23 at Hickstead.

Two people in the car got out of the vehicle before the fire crew arrived but the crash caused traffic queues back to Pyecombe. Firefighters made the car and the road safe.

In Crawley, two people had to be cut free from their vehicles after the cars were involved in a smash with a tree.

Firefighters were called to the junction of Town Barn Road and Ifield Avenue at 12.17pm today. The casualties were taken to hospital.
