An investigation has been launched after a man was killed on a busy road.
Matthew Botting, 30, from Andrews Road, Southwater, was involved in a collision with two cars as he walked on the A24 at Broadbridge Heath, near Horsham.
The incident happened about 7pm on Saturday.
After receiving calls from members of the public, officers had been deployed to look for a man in dark clothing in the road just minutes before.
The incident has now been referred to the watchdog Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw Mr Botting in the minutes before the collision to contact them on 0845 60 70 999.
