NOT many people realise that about a quarter of children in Sussex live in separated families.
Through no fault of their own, many of them only get to see one of their parents after a divorce or separation. My child is among them.
There are many countries and states around the world that provide evidence children thrive when they receive the love of both parents and that is why I believe the law in Britain needs changing.
It needs to make it obligatory for family courts to presume, except where there are dangers to a child, that both parents should share parenting. This doesn’t have to mean a set formula or rigid schedule, just that both parents and their families remain there for the children and are involved in their lives. I would love to know what Argus readers think of this. I, and other members of Families Need Fathers (www.fnf.org.uk) will be writing to our MPs soon and would appreciate feedback.
