POLICE are hunting three men who tried to raid a town centre jewellers in broad daylight today.

The raiders used a pick axe and sledge hammer as they attempted to smash the windows of GH Pressley and Son in South Street, Worthing, just after midday.

Witnesses said the men were wearing fluorescent jackets, hard hats and face masks.

The men abandoned the raid as passers by raised the alarm and are believed to have run off down nearby Warwick Street.

Detectives are studying CCTV footage to try and discover how they got away.
