A new bar has been refused an alcohol licence amid concerns it will lead to more antisocial behaviour.
Latin Lounge was being planned for the ground floor of the Travelodge hotel in West Street, Brighton.
But a Brighton and Hove City Council licensing panel has rejected an application from Moulsecoomb-based Funky Bars and Restaurants Ltd, the firm behind the scheme, for a licence to sell drinks from 7am to 4am.
The council said the proposed bar was in the middle of its "cumulative impact area" which it has designated as having enough pubs, clubs and off-licences already.
Sussex Police had voiced concerns about the possible impact of another late-night venue in West Street ahead of the licensing hearing.
The rejection has been welcomed by residents who opposed the plans.
The Argus was unable to contact Funky Bars and Restaurants yesterday. It is not yet known whether the firm plans to appeal against the decision or reapply.
