The History Centre has been a well-kept secret for many years, hidden away in the back room of the museum in the old reference library. No wonder the council says it isn’t being used enough, most people don’t even know it is there.
The centre is a wonderful resource of rare books, photographs, maps and the history of our city with free access to computers for people doing family history and other research.
Students of all ages find a rich collection of material to use. The staff are knowledgeable and always helpful.
Instead of closing down the centre the council should be erecting signs in and outside the museum advertising the wealth of material it holds.
Some of us cannot wait for the new record office to be built, we need access to these records now.
