FORMER worshippers at St Mary’s Church in Barcombe must have been “turning in their graves” from at least the middle of the 16th century, when dramatic changes took place in forms of worship and architecture at the time of the Reformation – “Revamp branded a desecration” (The Argus, December 9).
However, they were accepted over the years and what was once regarded as radical became part of the tradition.
Church buildings were built for the benefit of worshippers and in as much as the changes further the cause of true worship they are to be welcomed.
In Barcombe we have a true pattern of church architecture, supported by a forward-looking incumbent and the majority of a congregation who want to worship God in a way that is relevant to the 21st century.
May God bless them.
