Marking the winter solstice, city arts charity SameSky’s parade of illuminated lanterns offers a festive celebration without the commercialism.
The lanterns are carried through the city by about 1,000 participants and down to the seafront, where they are burnt on a pyre as a token of the end of the year. The parade leaves North Street at 6.30pm and is expected to reach Madeira Drive (the best viewing platform) at 7.15pm. It will finish at 8pm.
