he Argus, with its variety of news items, never ceases to publish articles which take me back to my teenage days in the 1930s and 1940s.

The latest article (December 11) concerned the Brighton College Cadet Force’s rifle range which I used in August 1940 while serving with the Home Guard. On the first occasion all five shots missed the target but I was better the next time by hitting it with all five shots.

This is mentioned in my recently published diaries and I have never since been through the imposing college entrance in Eastern Road. Neither have I seen any previous reference to their cadet force and rifle range in the news.

My thanks again to The Argus for this reflection.
