Firefighters were called to tackle a fire in a first-floor flat.
The blaze, which broke out in the microwave, caused smoke to fill the property.
The incident happened in Pearsons Retreat, Brougham Road in Worthing about 5pm today.
A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said it was believed to be an accident.
She added nobody was hurt in the incident.
