AS A former Brighton professional ice-skater and instructor, I am delighted press in the north are remembering the 50th anniversary of The Entertainer, starring Laurence Olivier, much of which was shot in Morecambe.

At that time I was appearing in an ice show at Blackpool. When that finished, it was the last week of filming and I managed to get work as an extra. Seeing Olivier rehearse his song and dance routine was an experience I shall never forget.

At the Brighton Hippodrome I saw the stage version and remember waiting in a long queue to get tickets. It was, I believe, the first time the box office had opened on a Sunday as this was the event of the year – to see the great Shakespearean actor as Archie Rice, a third-rate comedian. A brilliant performance. Never thought I would appear in the film many years later.
