Parties of the Left have only one answer to any problem it seems and that is to tax more.
The report that the Left-wing Parties in opposition on Brighton and Hove City Council want a car congestion charge considered shows they believe, even during a recession, that car drivers should be punished and people should pay to enter the city.
The bottom line is that the private car represents freedom to the Left and they can’t stand something they can’t control.
The Conservative administration is working to throw open the doors of the city to business, enterprise and opportunity for all residents.
A congestion charge supported by the Left would hang a massive “Don’t Go In” sign over Brighton and Hove.
Councillor Brian Oxley, former leader of Brighton and Hove City Council
