Brighton and Hove could be in line for more academies under new proposals.
The plans were set out in “Ten in 2010: Creating a City of Opportunity” in which Councillor Mary Mears, leader of Brighton and Hove City Council, outlined the top ten priorities to be delivered in the next year.
Coun Mears said she will “explore options for more academies in the city following the success of the Falmer Academy”, which is due to open in September next year.
The £26 million academy, which will replace the existing Falmer High School in Lewes Road, Brighton, is sponsored by The Aldridge Foundation and multi-millionairre Rod Aldridge.
Under the academy scheme, private sponsors give a maximum of £2million in return for a large degree of control over the school's curriculum, ethos and staffing.
The improvement of housing in the city, building stronger communities and improving community safety are some of the other pledges outlined in the mini-manifesto.
