The Sussex rail network could be thrown into chaos as hundreds of train staff plan to strike.
Train drivers from Southern Railways have said they will walk out after a row about bank holiday pay.
The union for train drivers, Aslef, said hundreds of it's members were planning to strike on December 28 because the firm had refused to pay them extra for working the bank holiday.
They also announced that members would strike on December 27 2010 and January 3 2011 unless the dispute was resolved by Southern.
A spokesman from Southern said: “We are extremely disappointed that ASLEF has called for industrial action.
“We continue to work hard to avoid what would be an extremely disruptive strike for you, our passengers.
“ASLEF has chosen industrial action over negotiation in a dispute over Christmas working arrangements.
“We appeal to them to come back to the table and help find a solution for the sake of our staff, their members and you.
“The union's action is particularly frustrating as we are complying fully with the established terms and conditions agreed with the union.”
