A greyhound had a lucky escape after she was hit by a train as it pulled into a station.
Train driver Tony Coulstock, 43, was pulling into Portslade railway station when he saw the four-year-old dog on the track in front of him.
He used the emergency brake but could not avoid hitting the dog and she went underneath his train.
Mr Coulstock, of Henderson Walk, Steyning, called the signal control room in Lancing and asked them to switch off the power to the line.
He then hopped out of his cab and onto the track to pull the shocked animal out from under the train.
He placed her in his cab and radioed ahead to Worthing railway station where the staff looked after her until the RSPCA came to take her to Grove Lodge Vets in Worthing.
The greyhound is now a charity dog and will eventually be rehomed.
