Police are looking at CCTV footage to try to determine if a man jumped in front of an express train.
The man died after he was hit near the platform of Southwick station at about 11.45am on Saturday.
The man, believed to be in his 50s and to have lived locally, is thought to have died immediately after being struck by the speeding train.
Police officers confirmed the death was not being treated as suspicious.
But they are looking at CCTV footage recorded at the station to see if it showed whether the man fell in front of the train or stepped out into its path.
