The Argus has been ordered to hand over footage of an anti-arms demonstration to police.
Sussex Police obtained a ‘special procedure production order’ under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 for images from the Smash EDO May Day protests in Brighton.
A judge at Lewes Crown Court granted the order for “all media containing moving and/or still images . . . published and unpublished of the march/procession/assembly/demonstration and subsequent disturbances which took place in Brighton, East Sussex on May 4 2009”.
Under the terms of the order the footage can be used “only for the purposes of the applicant’s criminal investigation and any relating proceedings”.
