A new venture is aiming to encourage mothers who are trying to make their own way in business.
The magazine Mums In Control is a spin-off of the popular website of the same name set up by businesswoman and mother Rachael Taplin.
She has recruited Sara Guiel, 41, to edit the Brighton and Hove version of the magazine.
Sara, who was born and bred in Brighton but now lives in Worthing, said: “I was looking for an opportunity that I could combine with motherhood. At the time I was teaching and if you are in a classroom you can't be anywhere else.”
After several years working in magazine publishing, where she helped launched titles including BBC Gardeners World and BBC Good Food, Sara was the perfect person to edit the quarterly magazine.
Half of the editorial content is national news and features while the rest is localised to Brighton and Hove.
Sara, who has two boys, Rupert, nine, and Felix, six, and is expecting her third child in November, said: “In the next issue we will look at mums who have started their own business in the city. There is a very entrepreneurial community of women in Brighton.
“In the future we will look at how mums can return to high-level employment after having a child as it can be difficult getting the same level of pay they had before.
“We will also have help and advice for mothers looking to start their own business.”
The next issue is out on October 24. In the meantime the current issue, featuring an interview with television property expert Sarah Beeny, is available from supermarkets, community centres, shops and businesses across the city.
