Having read the article in which the Green Party leader called for an end to major party donations (The Argus, September 5), and seen a recent quote complaining the party was being priced out of politics, I had a quick look at the Electoral Commission website to see who is funding them. It turns out the Green Party in the South East has received thousands from wealthy backers, including millionaires Ben Goldsmith and Peter Kindersley. In Brighton and Hove, it has received nearly £50,000 from three millionaires since February 2008. In addition, I have seen two jobs advertised at about £30,000 each purely to work in the general election campaign in Brighton and Hove. By pouring so much money into one seat, it looks like an effort to buy it and hardly makes them either better than anyone else or the poor relation in politics.
