A safe containing £30,000 cash was seized in a drugs raid on a flat.

Police stripped the Brighton home of the trappings of wealth - including a coat of arms - after finding half a kilo of cocaine yesterday morning.

Now they have launched an investigation into whether the flat’s contents were bought with profits from cocaine dealing.

Sussex Police raided two addresses in Popes Court, Freehold Terrace, Brighton, yesterday morning (Mon).

In one flat they found half a kilo of coke in a kitchen cupboard, with an estimated street value of up to £25,000.

When they later opened a safe found in the flat they found between £30,000 and £40,000 cash.

They also found more than £4,000 in a purse.

A 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine with intent to supply and money-laundering.

She was being questioned in custody yesterday.

Officers spent the morning removing items suspected of being bought using the profits of drug dealing.

They included several limited edition art prints, including a signed Sex Pistols print believed to be worth more than £1,400.

An LCD television, some large mirrors and designer watches and handbags were also removed.

Residents watched as a four-foot coat of arms - whose value is unknown - was carried out of the building.

At the other address nothing was found and no arrests were made.

Police have dropped leaflets neighbouring homes informing them a “positive” drugs warrant had been carried out.

Sgt Chris Lane of the Hollingdean and Preston Park neighbourhood team said: "We at Sussex Police are committed to tackling drugs supply.

"Any information received will be investigated and we look to act on it.

"We would encourage people to contact us if they have suspicions about people living beyond their means."

In January this year Sussex Police launched its “Too Much Bling? Give Us A Ring” campaign to urge the public to report people they suspected of making a living through crime.

The force’s Economic Crime Unit has used the investigate 18 potential cases, eight of which led to further inquiries.

So far one person has been charged and is awaiting a court appearance.

Investigators also handed information they received to benefits investigators.
