Commuters are facing delays of up to an hour after a person was hit by a train.
All trains on the Brighton to London line have been affected.
A number have been cancelled until service can be resumed.
A spokesman for National Rail said he expected normal service to be restored by 11am.
The casualty was struck in Horley, near Gatwick Airport at about 8.15am today.
