The family of a foreign student who died on a language holiday have spoken of their grief following the anniversary of his death.
Mohammed al-Majed, from Qatar in the Middle East, was attacked after an argument outside a kebab shop in Hastings.
The 16-year-old, who was due to return home after a summer spent studying English in the town, died two days later at King’s College Hospital in London on August 24.
His parents Abdulla and Ibtisam described him as a “charming, loving” boy.
His brother Ali, 28, told a Qatari newspaper: “I can feel the pain of my parents about the loss of our brother.
“It’s hard, this is a close family. Since we were young, no one left us for study, for anything. We would meet daily for lunch and dinner.
“We feel all this pain because, you know, we never missed someone for more than a month [before]. This is really, really painful.”
Mohammed had three other brothers Saud, 23, Hussain, 15, and Ahmed, 12 and a sister Dana, 25.
He was the first member of his family to study overseas.
His father will travel to England for the trial of George Austin, of no fixed address, who has been charged with Mohammed’s manslaughter.
Austin denies the charge and will stand trial on September 21.
