Dave Lynn can't help turning heads wherever he goes.
And when Coronation Street producers needed a shot of glamour to brighten up the rain-soaked cobbles of Weatherfield, they knew just who to ask.
Drag artiste Dave, of Arlington Gardens, Seaford, is a veteran of the small screen.
He has braved the Weakest Link's Anne Robinson four times and has also made appearances on EastEnders, Silent Witness and Channel 4's Faking It.
But he didn't expect a call from Manchester to ask him if he wanted to appear on the longest running soap in Britain.
Dave said: “I went up to meet the producers for a little chat - in full drag of course.
“They were really friendly and told me to come back the next week for filming.”
Dave felt unusually nervous as he prepared to strut his stuff on a national institution.
He said: ““I played the part of the host for the Mr Gay Weatherfield competition. It’s a really saucy little episode.
“I was incredibly jumpy before I went on. Walking around in drag past Ken, Deirdre and the others was surreal - it felt like the real thing.
“They let me ad-lib most of my six scenes. It was a really good laugh although I didn't expect to spend two days standing next to eight men in their underpants.”
During the programme, which will be broadcast on September 11, viewers will see builder Jason Grimshaw enter the Mr Gay Weatherfield competition after going out with his gay football team.
Despite being straight his antics go down very well with the male audience.
Dave refused to reveal the winner of the gay competition before the episode is broadcast.
He said: “All I'll say is that it's definitely worth a watch, if only for my rendition of Macho Man.”
Dave will remember his time in Coronation Street with a little more fondness than his appearance in EastEnders twelve years ago.
He said: “Everyone was very friendly at EastEnders, but the set felt a lot more like a factory.
“Plus I fell down a long flight of stairs in full drag that day and got blood all over my tights.”
