We are not at all surprised that a residential landlord has issued his tenant with an administration fee of £90 prior to the renewal of a lease (The Argus, August 26).
Recent Government reg-ulations have imposed new responsibilities upon residential landlords which have increasingly eaten into the rent income.
We now must pay for deposit registration, an energy performance certificate and a gas safety certificate, which has cost £145.66 in total on our most recent letting.
The managing agent’s 10% fee was £85 and the inventory cost £70 – a total £300.66.
That is no doubt the reason why landlords have begun to introduce administration fees.
Also, 40% of the rent goes to the tax inspector, which leaves a much reduced rental income.
We don’t, as yet, issue an admin fee but then again, it is a splendid idea.
