I share Adam Trimingham’s enthusiasm for the exciting i360, but I also feel Brighton and Hove should be building for business.
This has happened in the city before and can be seen by looking at the many fine buildings on the north side of North Street, the west side of West Street and the great purpose-built stores which can be seen in Western Road.
These buildings gave Brighton a city feel and, of course, either brought in more businesses or encouraged those already in the city to expand.
The presence of these companies also gave Brighton a business-driven vitality – better described as “bustle” – and is still far in excess of any city of comparable size.
So, while we could experience much excitement along the seafront, there was then – and still is – a different type of excitement to be found in the form of bustle, which can be found in and around our commercial areas.
