Eastbourne Borough goalkeeper Danny Knowles saved a penalty in the final minute of the first half to ensure parity at Priory Lane.
The visitors threatened early on when Ishmael Welsh's low shot was pushed around a post by Knowles at the expense of a corner.
Borough responded with Andy Atkin's header sending Matt Crabb away and he centred for Jamie Taylor who shot straight at keeper Lance Cronin from a great position.
Atkin had a decent chance just before the half-hour mark when the ball broke kindly to him in the penalty area but he seemed to be taken by surprise by the opening and Cronin blocked his shot.
Borough struck the woodwork five minutes before the break when Taylor acrobatically met Matt Crabb's corner from the right, hooking it on to Cronin's left-hand post.
Then came the talking point of the half a a casual looking Marc Pullan was beaten to the ball by Simon Thomas who burst away down the left and was brought down by Gary Elphick as he cut inside. Thomas took the penalty but Knowles made a great save to his left.
