As a cyclist and a car driver, I was delighted to receive a letter from Brighton and Hove City Council outlining its plans for an east-west cycle route on Old Shoreham Road.
I cycle down Old Shoreham Road to get to work and am fully aware of the dangers of fast traffic and congestion.
These are the reasons that discourage many people from cycling in the city.
The proposed scheme, however, would provide a safe cycling route for hundreds of people going to work or school, people who are currently too scared to get out of their cars.
Indeed, the most common reason people don’t let their kids cycle to school is because it isn’t safe on the roads.
Now, at last, kids cycling to school will be able to enjoy the freedom and exercise they so desperately need. And my trip to work won’t be quite so scary.
