On Friday July 14 I had my introduction to the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) with ZT Fight Skool's very own resident expert Ivam Maciel.
Ivam is the real deal, from Brazil and has been training in BJJ for nine years, this will be one of the skills that I will need to master for my forthcoming pro MMA fight, so I feel that I am very safe hands.
BJJ is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. It is a derivative of early 20th century Kodokan Judo, which was itself then a recently-developed system (founded in 1882), based on multiple schools (or Ryu) of Japanese Jujutsu.
It was a great session and a real eye opener to how a smaller fighter can hold down a heavier opponent and get a submission, all with very cleaver and skillful techniques. I really enjoyed this one and I will be spending plenty more time grappling with Ivam.
As always my fitness was tested afterwards with another circuit with my personal trainer Sol Gilbert.
