Brighton's reputation as a Mod mecca was cemented in the 1960s and continues to the present day, when events like this bring the new generation of sharp-suited, music-obsessed hipsters scooting to the city.
Ahead of the opening of rock musical Quadrophenia at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday, Mod-related events take place day and night over the next three days. They include club nights at Komedia and the Volks, a scooter cruise and the launch of photographer Horst R Friedrich’s new book I’m One (21st Century Mods), 15ft prints from which will be displayed at the Sealife Centre. Horst has spent the past 12 years documenting the current Mod scene and brings the Modernist story up to date in his book, which includes quotes from none other than Pete Townshend.
