HAVING read the article “A growing desire for allotments” (The Argus, August 13), I waited with baited breath to see if anybody would make any comments on the piece, in particular the council department, namely parks and gardens.
As one of the many on the allotment waiting list I wonder how there are so many plots of land in these sites not cultivated and gone to weed, while the officers employed by the council do nothing to resolve this.
As an OAP, how can they not give me a plot? Five years is a long time to wait when time is not on your side.
It would seem that younger people would get preference. After all, us older people might not be around.
Just walking around some of these allotment sites I have counted at least 195 rods not cared for and totally overgrown.
Rumours have it that some who have a plot are putting it in another family’s name. Can the council and its officers please investigate these claims?
